True RMS voltmeter ...?
ConquerorOfConstantinople - 2008-10-07 10:36:52 - Engineering
Some (cheap) AC voltmeters report an RMS result by dividing the peak voltage and dividing the result by square_root(2). When would you want to use a "true RMS" voltmeter?
Най-добър отговор:
You should use a True RMS voltmeter anytime you need a correct conversion or the measurement of non sine wave values.

Dividing by root 2 means it is assuming the AC source is a sine wave. If the source is not producing a sine wave, i.e. triangular or square wave the RMS would be incorrect, So if the voltage is not sinusoidal you would want a true RMS to be more accurate.

By further information you can join to the mdl server of the bilkent university.
Abdullah Atalar will provide you the true answer :D
